  • Phospho-LRRK2 (S1292) refers to the specific form of the Parkinson's disease-associated protein LRRK2 that is phosphorylated at its serine 1292 residue. LRRK2 is a multifunctional kinase, and mutations in it are among the most common genetic causes of familial Parkinson's disease. The S1292 site is located within the WD40 domain of LRRK2, and its phosphorylation status is dynamically regulated by upstream kinases (such as PKA) and phosphatases (such as PP1). Phosphorylation at this site can influence LRRK2's kinase activity, GTPase activity, interactions with other proteins (e.g., 14-3-3 proteins), subcellular localization (such as binding to microtubules and membrane structures), and neurotoxicity.
